Information Systems and Operations Management Area

The information systems and operations management (ISOM) area is the largest academic area in the Costello College of Business.

The area consists of an ambitious and collegial group of faculty members who highly value excellence in research, teaching, and service. 

The area includes faculty in management of information systems (MIS), operations management (OM), and business analytics disciplines, with several faculty members having multidisciplinary interests.

The area offers two undergraduate concentrations:

• Management of information systems (MIS), which encompasses analysis, design, implementation, and management of information systems, to support business processes and decision making in all functional areas of an organization. 
• Operations and supply chain management (OSCM), which encompasses management of resources and processes used by a firm to produce goods or services. 

In addition to courses in these two concentrations, the ISOM area offers several courses in the business analytics concentration and most of the business college graduate programs. Learn more about ISOM's academic programs. 

Aside from teaching, ISOM faculty conduct managerially relevant research using diverse methodologies such as machine learning and economic modeling. The ISOM area faculty regularly publish in premier academic journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Strategic Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly among others. Our faculty members have won prestigious university and professional society awards for their research and teaching. Many of our faculty serve on the editorial boards of leading journals, and all are active professionally in their respective fields.
